About Wayne

Wayne AlexanderI grew up in Worthing on a council estate with parents that gave me lots of love and worked hard to keep a roof over our heads and give me opportunities. Although you wouldn’t want me to operate on your appendix, hang new doors in your house or change the exhaust on your car, I do lead a growing church in Pembury, Kent, and am passionate about helping people to know God and shape their lives around knowing him better. I encountered the love and power of Jesus at 16 and I’m passionate others get the chance to know him too.

I’m also particularly passionate about growing in my own leadership skills and helping others to grow in theirs. There’s no point in being the leader of something if you aren’t willing to keep growing as a spiritual leader, strategic thinker or someone who others look to for direction. I try to encourage and equip churches to be places where the love of Jesus is creatively proclaimed, sacrificially demonstrated and undeniably experienced. As a communicator and leader, my desire is to bring the depth of scripture alive to hearers today with insight, humour and authenticity so that those who listen are empowered to live out its truth with others in community.

I did my Theology degree at the London School of Theology and came to PBC in September 2002. I’m married to Jemma and we have two beautiful children. Prior to coming to PBC I worked in a hospital in India, as a roofer and as a waiter, amongst other things. None of those places wanted to keep me, so I came to PBC as the Associate Pastor in September 2002, before being invited to become Senior Pastor in November 2005 after leading the church through a year of interregnum. My main roles in PBC as Senior Pastor are leading the Eldership and Staff teams, envisioning the church and being the primary teacher.

I love film, music, theatre and reading and have a real soft spot for food. Sharing any of these with my beautiful wife Jemma will make it a million times better.  My children are the best theologians I know…
